10: TECHNICAL GLITCH ON THIS
WEBSITE! We regret that there are a
number of technical problems with some of the pages on this website! For
various reasons not all the pages have been updated and others have
"lost" some of their graphics. However this home page is unaffected and
will continue to be updated correctly!
Due to other commitments the Webmaster is
unlikely to be able to rectify the glitch until mid May - sorry!

OLYMPIC ROLL OF HONOUR
Since we first published the
Olympic Roll of Honour a decade ago, we have been aware that there were
some errors & omissions. Changes trickle in and we believe that we are
now 98% correct! We always welcome your amendments and would
particularly like to hear from anyone who can confirm the following
details:
1948: First
names & Unit (presumably RMA Sandhurst?) of OCdts Parkinson (Alpine) and
Walker (Winter Pentathlon). Indeed; was Parkinson even in the GBR team -
he is not in the official results? Unit of Maj Percy Legard, and was he
still in the Army at the time and, also from Winter Pentathlon, Maj
Derek Allhusen - was he still in the Army?
1960: Unit
of Capt Robin Seel (Bobsleigh)

OLYMPIANS TO
MEET DURING APTC 150th CELEBRATIONS
The Olympians are a unique
Club of male and female athletes who have represented Great Britain in
the Olympic & Olympic Winter Games. Membership is free, but only a
handful of the Army's many Olympians ever attend any of their functions!
This year the AGM and Lunch, which costs a mere £ 10, will be held at
the home of the Army Physical Training Corps (APTC) in Aldershot on Sat
19 Jun - probably at 11:00. The APTC celebrates its 150th Anniversary
this year (so is actually 46 years older than the Olympic movement!) and
the Olympians will be given a personal tour of the APTC Museum which
displays many Olympic and other sporting memorabilia representing those
150 years.
All Army Olympians will be
most warmly welcome on the day - especially those who have never
attended before. If you would like to attend please Email
John (J.A.G.) Moore (OWG 1956, 60,
64). Please also inform him even if you can not attend, but would like
to be put on The Olympians mailing list. |

SSGB IN LIQUIDATION - BSS ARISING FROM THE ASHES
Many readers will have been
following the rapid demise of SSGB (Snowsport GB - formerly the British
Ski & Snowboard Federation) which went heavily into debt last year, and
then into administration just before the Olympic Winter Games and is now
in the process of liquidation.
From the ashes and with
the support of the BOA "British Ski & Snowboarding" (BSS) has risen.
Much background on this is provided by Lord Colin Moynihan who is acting
as interim Chairman in a
statement issued
last month. Obviously all reference and links to SSGB in our website
have lapsed and BSS does not yet have its own website however some
further information can be obtained through
www.britski.org.
BSS is responsible as the
UK's National Governing Body for Alpine (including Telemark), Cross
Country and Freestyle skiing plus Snowboarding. It has no link to
Biathlon or the AWSA's ice sports. |
